Love is none of these things.
It won't suddenly make every day ok.
It won't change who you are.
It won't make your car go faster.
It doesn't even wash your dishes.

All love is, is love. And that's all it needs to be, really.

[ music | Neil Young - Horse With No Name ]

Kevin came this weekend. He didn't tell me so it was a suprise visit and I was really happy.

I started reading Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. It's good so far, but crazy as hell, ha.

I am going to either New Zealand or Australia next July. I hope I get to go to New Zealand because Australia is experiencing a horrific drought and I, as an American, take a lengthy shower. I'll be volunterring there for two weeks so it should be freaking awesome. I wanted to take the extra week adventure tour of Fiji, but I don't think I'll have the money. Why won't I have the money?

Because Angel is talking about studying abroad summer '10. I definitely would like to do that as well even if the credits don't count. She only wants to go for a month and I do too so I am going to talk to her and see if she wants to do it together and get information together. I'd like to study in Germany because we can do excursions to places like Austria and the Czech Republic but who knows because she digs Ireland and England. I just think it'd be awesome to go to school in a foreign country with my favorite bitch =) hahah.

Well there will be updates on all of that as the years progress. I hope everyone is doing well and aren't being crammed too hard with the end of the semester bullshit.

sneak peak [17 Nov 2008|12:55am]

1956x

the fashion show went incredibly well.
i was pleasantly surprised. :)

now, I have about a million things to do before this semester is over.
this week is the last full week of school & i just don't feel like i can do this anymore.
i absolutely despise school.
i have zero motivation to go to class, read textbooks, or write papers.
i have no clue how i'm supposed to get through another year of this.

tonight was fun though.
made dinner for my favorite person.
& watched two movies.

more pictures later this week.
i'm too out of it to function right now.

bare minerals! ... a scam? or AWESOME?! [16 Nov 2008|01:45pm]

heycheri
Once again, I've caved into yet another mass-marketed favorite.
And this time, it's Bare Escentuals: bareMinerals 100% PURE MakeUp.

Originally, I was just going to the mall with my mom to pick up a new blotting powder for my MAC foundation. It got stolen (along with my purse, wallet, phone, housekeys, etc) out of my friend's car when we all went clubbing together. T_T;; They smashed the window in and everything!! *SIGH*

Karma?
Totally.

So tra-la-la, we're walking through the cosmetics & fragrance section at Macy's.
But my mom stops -- mesmerized by the ginormous tower of Bare Minerals starter sets that made up an entire pillar of the mall. So I paused with her to check it out.

Of course the sales reps working at the Bare Escentuals counter nearby jumped on the opportunity to push the product on us. "Try it! Try it, you'll love it! Come on, it doesn't hurt!"

And my mom's been really excited about this for ages now, so I was like, "Go ahead, mom. If you like it, I'll get it for you. If you don't, then at least we tried it!"

She's been obsessed with the idea of Mineral Makeup for over two years now and was afraid to try the product because of how expensive it was. But with a bit of encouragement, she gave in and sat herself down for a "MakeUNDER" (as they call it at Bare Escentuals).

The sales rep, Dana (this woman who I recognized as having previously worked at the Benefit counter), gave us the usual cheerleadery pep-talk as she happily applied the product to my mom's face. "This is completely organic! So good for you! I've never gone back to liquid since starting this foundation, you're gonna' love it! It's already making a difference! You look so good!" BLAHBLAHBLAHBLAHBLAH -- shoot meeeee!!

I know you work on commission, bitch! You can't fool me! >:O!

And truthfully? I wasn't sold when she applied it to my mom's face (as she already has near-perfect skin and it didn't really look like it made a difference), but my mom was so excited about it when she checked herself out in the mirror that I just couldn't bare to tell her that it would probably be a waste of money. :/

But when I tried it on myself -- woooooooooaaahhhh. It just ... Didn't feel like there was anything on my face. I was looking in the mirror, touching my skin, kind of just baffled that I was even wearing makeup! Because after years of wearing liquid foundation, this stuff was just ... I dunno'. Too good to be true, I guess? Because the coverage was nice. I was so used to the heavy, mask-like feel of liquid foundation that it was just unreal how great it looked.

My mom was screaming like, "Your skin is glowing! You look so amazing! I love it! You need to use this and not MAC foundation ever again!" Blah-blah-blah.

But I dunno'.
I really don't know.
It looked good in the store under that weird lighting, but after going home and taking
a picture of myself ...

This is the finish that Bare Minerals gave me (as applied by the makeup artist, Dana).

I look like a fucking disco-ball.

The only makeup I have on in this photo is a little bit of woodwinked eyeshadow,
and Maybelline Volume Turbo Boost mascara (which obviously likes to smudge a bit).
Note the "glowing" skin my mother (who is around 50-something) was so mesmerized
about is merely the shiny particles in the makeup (I think it's mica and talc?). Note also
how red my freaking face looks in comparison to my neck and below. WTF.
I was color matched as medium-beige, but this looks awful on me!! >=O

This might just be me complaining after going from the perfectly matte and flawless finish of studiofix to this, but my skin just looks orangey/red, and the shine is fucking unbearable. It's like, HELLO?? I already experience oily/shiny skin. I do not need a freaking GLITTERY foundation on my face to worsen the deal! *Kick scream!* Anyway, whatever. The coverage was nice, but I haven't seen it in daylight lighting yet. So I can't give you the full judgement just yet.

I'll get back to you a month or so down the road and let you know the final verdict. I still need to wear this around for a full day and see if it makes me look as crazy as I feel it does in this photo.

Admittedly, it does look more "natural" than my MAC liquid foundation does (in person), but I dunno'. I take a lot of pictures with friends, and that's when I want my makeup to stand out the most. That's when I want to look perfect -- not shiny or too-red, y'know?

What do you guys think? Does my the surface of my face look like I'm wearing anything on it? Or does it just look like red, oily fucking skin? *Sigh*

Beautiful bag, right?

The two starter sets -- one for my mom, and one for me. :D
$60 each, by the way. Yes, I bought them
for the both of us. My mom looked so guilty that I was getting this for her, lmfao.
I was like, "Mom, come on! It's fine. I have money, it's okay!" And she kept
trying to give me some money back, offering to pay for other stuff, lol.
She's so sweet, I love her.

The primer that Dana convinced us to buy. -_- Very satiny and smooth -- still
testing it out in comparison to my MAC primer, so we'll see about that. About
$21 or so for each? I don't remember.

I LOVE THESE. The lip-colours from Bare Escentuals are my freaking favorite
part about the entire purchase! Vanessa, a full-color gloss in deep-berry, is my mom's
new favorite lip-colour. And Dolly, a purplish tinted gloss, is mine! It's a lot darker
than what I'm used to, but the way it feels on your lips is the best part.
It's incredibly minty and fresh feeling -- like the feeling you get right after you
brush your teeth or use a minty mouthwash. I love them. :D! I'm so sold on these.

They were like $18 a peice, but so worth
it. :D If I decide not to use Bare Minerals foundation, I am so going back to at
least purchase more of their glosses. ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

Color payoff = fabulous. Feeling = Fabulous. Texture = Fabulous. :) I wouldn't
say that it lasts forever (as obviously, Dolly came off as I ate), but I never have
a problem with reapplying. It's just that you definitely need a compact mirror to
reapply these as they are not that sheer at all and you'd probably look crazy
with this smeared all over the edges of your lips. Easy to fix with your fingers though.

Free sample travel-sized minis that Dana gave us after suckering us into our
purchase. Lmfao. Thanks, babe. :D But the mini-kabuki is awful. LOL. It's just
so pointless. But a nice afterthought.

And two free eyeshadow samples for us as well. :P My mom gave me hers.
She's not much of a makeup wearer (which explains why her skin is effing
FABULOUSSSSS!!!). The eyeshadows are all very shimmery and pretty! :)
Like MAC pigments. Love 'em.

Opening the box..

Nice.

The Medium kit comes with Medium foundation, Medium Beige foundation
(supposedly my color, which I totally disagree with), Warmth (sort of like
a bronzer), and Mineral Veil (a transluscent powder that absorbs shine etc).
The brushes are a full coverage brush (picks up more product and gives you
medium to full coverage), a flawless face brush (retarded name that just
means your face gets light to medium coverage), and a concealer brush
(which picks up more of the product to conceal your more prominent
blemishes -- works pretty well).

The kit I got also comes with a brush cleaning shampoo (of which I have
yet to try, so I'll get back to you on that!).

An easy-to-read manual with lots of pretty pictures, lmfao. And a DVD that
gives you a step-by-step tutorial on how to apply the makeup, as well as
introduces you to other products within the same line so that you can go
"beyond the basics" (stupid marketing scheme that just makes you want to
buy all of their other shit).

And everything together in the same box (except the brush shampoo, which
I will just set aside with my other brush cleaning/makeup removing products).

Probably the only thing that really
made me excited about this trip was this:

A $35 ticket to the Cosmetics & Fragrance Gala at Macy's!!
EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've never been to a Gala before! :D The word literally means, "A festive
occasion or celebration -- especially a lavish social event or entertainment." Ooo
la laaa, doesn't that sound fancy? ♥ Exciting.

The $35 ticket gets credited into a Macy's
giftcard (which you basically just end up spending at Macy's during the event). And
every counter gives away exclusive gifts during the event with every qualifying
purchase that you make. :D!! So basically, I'm buying something from everywhere
next Friday, lmfaooo. You also get a cosmetics bag full of cosmetics and fragrance samples,
10 tickets for a chance to win one of their many raffle prizes, and entrance to the gala
from 6pm to 10pm (at which point I'm sure they close down that section of the mall).

CAN YOU IMAGINE ALL OF THE PRODUCTS THAT I CAN GET MY HANDS ON!?
*_*!! MMMMMMMMM!! I'm going to have to look online and compile a list of all
of the things I want. HEEHEE!! ♥ ♥ EXCITIIIINGGGG!! ♥ ♥

I think I'll wear all-black (like at the MAC Counter), and wear decisively neutral makeup
(just in case I want to sample any of the products on my actual face). Anyway, I'm
not sure if this event is only being held in the mall I typically go to, or if it's
at every Macy's Mall. So you might wanna' check that out if you're interested.

So yeah.
Bare Minerals -- not that great. Nice coverage, but very oily-looking (in my opinion), and just too unnaturally sparkly for my taste. Not a matte finish like I'm used to, but doesn't rub off on my clothes or irritate my open-relationship boyfriend's face when he smooches me. Not heavy at all and doesn't feel like makeup.

But like I said, this is only after one test run.
So far, not that impressed. But we'll see, hm?
What I'm hoping is that with continuous use, it will "magically" clear up my skin and leave me with a healthier complexion.

The scariest thing about it is this unnatural ingredient (which doesn't make it 100% pure like it claims):

Because from what I've read, Bismuth Oxychloride is actually bad for your skin and can cause allergic reactions! I've read tons of reviews from makeupalley that claim the Bismuth made their skin itch, caused cystic acne (which results in scarring), and broke them out in areas they had never experienced before.

So I'm a little freaked out about that. o_o
The majority of reviews HATED Bare Minerals and chose Everyday Minerals instead (which is actually 100% pure).

Also, I've noticed that women typically in their early 30's to to 50's raved about this product the most. I'm thinking it's because it provides the glow that only younger skin has (and which you typically lose with age). Even the women in the tutorial videos were all aged 30 to 50. But we'll see.

You never know until you try a product for yourself, right? :D

skeptical for now,
XOXO Cheri XOXO
